WordPress Development
Shawn Voskuil, San Diego, CA
I build WordPress sites the way I build Drupal sites: as software rather than as an assembly of plugins. Most of the WordPress work that reaches me is a rescue job, replacing something built in a page builder or a website tool that the owner has outgrown.
What I build
- Custom themes developed from scratch, not adapted from a purchased template
- Migrations onto WordPress from Wix, Squarespace, and hand-built legacy sites
- Replacement of page-builder installations that have become slow or unmaintainable
- Plugin configuration and custom functionality where a plugin does not already fit
- Performance, technical SEO, and accessibility cleanup
Why a custom theme
Page builders are quick to start and expensive to live with. They ship far more markup and script than a page needs, they are difficult to change predictably, and they tend to bake accessibility problems into every template at once. A theme written for the site is smaller, faster, and can actually be maintained.
For Private MD Amy, a concierge medicine practice in San Diego, that meant rebuilding from the ground up and removing an Elementor installation. For Indiana Phones it meant a migration off a homemade Wix site onto WordPress with the SEO groundwork the business needed to compete.
Working together
Available full-time, part-time, contract, freelance, or as a subcontractor through an agency. Remote across the United States, with occasional on-site work in the San Diego area. The FAQ covers how engagements usually run, or you can get in touch directly.
