Yes. I am currently open for new engagements and responding to inquiries. ### What kinds of engagements do you take? Full-time roles, part-time roles, contract and freelance projects, and subcontract work through agencies. I work both directly with clients and as a subcontractor on someone else's delivery team, so an agency that needs senior Drupal capacity for a single project is as welcome as a company hiring for a permanent role. ### Do you work remotely, or on-site? Remote by default, and I work with clients across the United States. I am based in San Diego, California, so occasional on-site work in the San Diego area is straightforward, and I am open to some travel when a project genuinely calls for it. ### What do you charge? Rates depend on the engagement type, scope, and timeline, so I quote per project rather than publishing a rate card. Send me the details and I will come back with a number. ### What makes federal government web work different from commercial projects? Government work layers several compliance regimes on top of ordinary development, and they are audited rather than self-declared. Accessibility is the most visible one. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act governs federal ICT, and the 2017 refresh harmonised the standard with WCAG 2.0 Level AA. In practice agencies now expect WCAG 2.1 AA as the floor, with 2.2 AA increasingly requested for new builds, and OMB M-24-08 tightened how agencies manage and report on conformance. Conformance is usually documented in an Accessibility Conformance Report and verified by testing, not asserted in a proposal. Security is a second layer. Federal work generally happens inside an agency's own authorisation process, so dependencies, code, and hosting are reviewed before anything ships, on the agency's timeline rather than yours. There are service standards on top of that. The 21st Century IDEA requires executive branch agencies to modernise their sites and digitise forms and services, which sets real expectations for mobile support, performance, and consistency, and many agencies standardise on the U.S. Web Design System. Plain language and records requirements shape the content and the workflow around it. The practical effect is that the definition of done is different. A commercial site is finished when it looks right and converts. A federal site is finished when it also passes an accessibility audit, survives a security review, and is documented well enough that another team can maintain it after you leave. ### Do you offer ongoing maintenance and support? Yes. I take on ongoing maintenance alongside project work: Drupal core and module updates, security patching, dependency upgrades, and fixing accessibility regressions before they become findings. ### Can you fix accessibility problems on a site I already have? Yes. Remediating an existing site against ADA and Section 508 requirements is a large part of what I do, and it is usually a different job from building something new: the constraint is working within markup, themes, and content someone else wrote without breaking what already works. ### What platforms and technologies do you work in? Drupal through version 11 and WordPress, on PHP, with custom module and theme development, Twig templating, content migrations, and REST and JSON:API integrations. On the front end, semantic HTML, modern CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. ## Optional - [Adventures](https://mrfoxhole.com/adventures): Personal trip reports covering hiking, mountain biking, and overlanding in Southern California and the Southwest.
